2024 budget tips – make your voice count

The Minister of Finance, Mr Enoch Godongwana, will deliver the National Budget Speech in February 2024. The budget allocation aims to strike a balance between growing the economy and supporting the vulnerable amid limited resources.

It is in this context that Minister Godongwana invites South Africans to share their suggestions on the Budget People may submit views on:
▪ municipal finances
▪ spending priorities of government
▪ addressing a large budget deficit
▪ stabilising State-Owned Entity finances
▪ managing the energy crisis
▪ tax revenues
▪ debt sustainability

"The budget is the most important economic instrument of government, as it reflects the country's socioeconomic policy priorities by translating priorities and political commitments into expenditures."

Following the tabling of last year's Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement, on 1 November 2023, the committees of Parliament (Appropriations and Finance) conducted public hearings with relevant stakeholders. Submissions were also received from the stakeholders during the public hearings. The MTBPS made it possible for Parliament and the public to interact with the government's budget plans several months ahead of the budget set for February 2024.
